You may have heard about life coaching, but do you really know what kind of service a life coach provides? How does life coaching work? How could you benefit from one? Who needs a life coach?
At a time in my life when I was confused, burned out, stressed out, and unclear of my future I discovered self help. I knew I wanted things to be different, but I was unclear about what that was and what it looked like. I began coaching myself. I sorted through the fog, thoughts, and emotions. I began asking myself powerful questions that changed my life.
I fell head over heels in love with self help and life coaching. I recognized my strengths and values. I became vision and goal oriented. I was bursting to share and help others with the life changing information I discovered. I felt amazing, empowered, and extremely excited about life. The next major and obvious step for me was enrolling to become a life coach. So what exactly is coaching?…
Coaching is the art and practice of enabling individuals and groups to move from where they are to where they want to be. So a life coach helps guide their clients into a more desirable future. I was a perfect candidate for a life coach. I knew I wanted things to be different. I had the desire but I lacked direction and clarity.
A coach works with the client and establishes a relationship. The relationship is built on trust and honesty. During a coaching session the client talks, the coach listens, and the coach asks powerful questions. The session is dictated by the clients needs and agenda. Together the pair work together to help the client gain clarity and understanding. The goal is to get the client to think, discover, and to explore new possibilities.
Life coaching is about moving foward. It’s goal and action oriented. The past isn’t always relevant. Clients are typically well off mentally and emotionally, and they are focused on moving forward. Coaching is not therapy or counceling.
There are a wide variety of coaching topics. Here are a few: relationships, parenting, clarity, organization, health/fitness, overwhelm, overcoming barriers, new career, balancing life, self acceptance, personal fulfillment, taking action, seeking peace, and achieving a goal. Sometimes a client may be unclear about the coaching topic. They may feel lost and in need of change, but they are unclear about the directon they want to take. A life coach will help sort out all of the clients thoughts.
As a coach I believe my clients are talented, creative, and capable of creating a fulfilling life. It’s my job to bring out the best in my clients. I ask powerful questions to help my clients discover the path that leads them to the desires of their heart.
